Keeping heritage alive for the next generation.

I started building dry stone walls in 2002. As I worked, I was also asked to build mortared walls and became interested in lime. I did several training courses with suppliers.

My work expanded to include repointing of period properties. I have always had an interest in history and old buildings. I wanted to learn more about the techniques and history of buildings so I completed a SPAB (Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings) 6 day repair course.

I enjoyed the SPAB course and wanted to learn more so I went on to do a Masters in Building Conservation. The theories and knowledge of the Masters degree inform and give  wider context to my work although nothing can replace experience. One also needs to continue learning and question the techniques and materials one is using.

This process has lead me , over the last 12 years, to the conclusion that Hot Lime is the best material for repointing. I cover an area within 20 miles of Chipping Norton.
